Summer Training Days

We’ve been trying to get 3 hikes in a week especially since it’s less than a month from when we leave for the Alps. Once again, our favorite hiking place has turned out to be Gale Woods Farm where there are some rolling hills. Because we typically don’t see anyone else there when we hike except the cows and sheep, we can “almost believe” we are hiking the Tour du Mont Blanc.

Our “standard hike” is two loops around the farm or about 4.5miles. We like to hike in the morning before it gets too hot!

Meanwhile, Kevin, Kris, Tom, and Chanda have putting in their training miles at Carver Park, the Arboretum as well as some other parks where they have been traveling.

All in all, we’ve loved the chance to spend time outdoors this summer in nature and hope that all our “training efforts” will help us once we start our BIG hike very soon! 😀

We’re Heading Back to the Alps!

After finishing our Tour du Mont Blanc hike in 2017, we immediately began thinking about planning another hike with our hiking buddies, Kevin, Kris, Tom, & Chanda. We LOVE having a goal out there to keep ourselves motivated to work out.

After exploring a number of hikes in the Alps, we settled on returning to Mont Blanc as the hike is so fantastic. We knew our friends would love it, and of course, each time you hike, the experience is a little different. So this spring, we finalized our plan to return to France.

We began our serious training for the Tour du Mont Blanc hike in the beginning of June. Our training consisted of continuing our regular spin classes plus hiking several times a week with a "loaded backpack." We did a lot of our training at Gale Woods Farm which is only about 5 minutes away from our new home.

Sometimes Greg and I would hike alone; sometimes the two of us hiked together, and sometimes we would meet up with others in our hiking group.

We'd often do two loops around Gale Woods Farm (approximately 4.5 miles) where we would take in the beautiful rolling hills and enjoy the farm animals.
